Legal issues are key for those operating in the area of freight forwarding whether in their own jurisdiction or internationally.
Keeping forwarders advised of legal developments around the world is therefore of prime importance for this body as is advising the association of action it may take in relation to legal developments to protect the interests of its members. It should be remembered that the body is an advisory body and therefore reactionary and not involved in policy making. Institutes within FIATA such as the Multimodal Transport Institute or the Airfreight Institute may ask for the body’s advice and, having received that advice, are likely to go on and make policy decisions. It is important for the body to have active participation from legally trained members from around the world in order to be effective.
ABLM meets two times a year at the HQ Session in Zurich and at the Annual World Congress. Its working groups will meet when necessary to take the work of the groups forward. The ABLM Agenda addresses the legal issues that are of concern to the freight forwarding industry in keeping everyone updated and reporting on the work of its working groups.
Members having a legal issue which they believe is of concern to forwarders in general, they should first send a report to the Secretariat who will decide whether the matter should be referred to one of the Institutes for initial consideration rather than direct to the body as it is reactionary to the Institutes or the Presidency.
