1. Attend the FIATA Headquarters' Session 2015 from March 19th to 22nd

As in every year, FIATA will host its annual HQ Session at Swissôtel, in Zürich. Participation of FIATA Members is very valuable as it makes it possible for FIATA to continuously improve its work and, in that process, build new opportunities.

2. Global Survey on Trade Facilitation and Paperless Trade Implementation: 2014-2015 - Call for Input from FIATA's Membership

The United Nations Regional Commissions including ECA, ECE, ECLAC, ESCAP and ESCWA, in collaboration with OECD, Oceania Customs Organisation Secretariat (OCO) and UNCTAD, are conducting a global survey to collect relevant data and information on trade facilitation and paperless trade implementation from their respective member states. 

They have invited experts interested in sharing expertise and knowledge on different aspects of trade facilitation and paperless trade to participate. FIATA encourages input from its membership by completing the below online survey. Your responses will enable the countries to better understand and monitor progress in trade facilitation, support evidence-based policy-making and highlight the needs for capacity building.

3. Latest statistical trends in the air cargo industry published by the International Transport Forum

The latest update of global freight data has been published. Some of the highlights include.

  • Air freight volumes in tonnes of goods moved have recovered above pre-crisis peak in the United States and EU-28.
  • Exports to BRICS and Asia remain primary driver of global growth.
  • Rail freight volume slows down in China.

4. WTO Members begin to implement Bali measures on Least Developed Countries (LDCs) Waivers

On February 5th, member nations discussed measures which would support the growth of services trade in LDCs by providing their services exports with preferential treatment.

This was an important step in implementing a key Bali decision in support of LDCs, which aims to enhance their participation in world services trade.

6. European Union publishes new guidelines for road cargo security

The new European Guidelines on Cargo Securing for Road Transport provide basic practical advice and instructions to all stakeholders involved in loading, unloading and cargo securing, including carriers and shippers.

Available in 22 languages, the European Guidelines will also be useful to enforcement bodies performing inspections in accordance with the European Directive on the technical roadside inspection of the roadworthiness of commercial vehicles.

7. FIATA Fund for Ebola Relief remains open for donations

The Fund, established at the FIATA World Congress in Istanbul, has been busily receiving donations from FIATA Members around the world and is still open. The Secretariat would also like to make it known that the fund is open to all, not just the entities that made the initial pledges.
