Record number of countries represented at the FIATA World Congress 2007 in Dubai

The FIATA World Congress 2007 under the patronage of H.H. Sheikh Mohammed Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of UAE and Ruler of Dubai, was held from 18-22 October 2007 in Dubai. The interesting congress program and the concurrently running exhibition attracted 1’152 participants from 93 countries.

A highlight of this congress was certainly the Main Forum with the very accurate topic “100% Transportation Security – Myth or Reality?” with key-note speakers from the US Department of Homeland Security, EU Commission (Directorate General for Energy and Transport), and the international and local forwarding and logistics industry.

All meetings of the Institutes, Advisory Bodies and Regional Committees of FIATA were well attended and offered interesting presentations by international and local speakers. At the open ceremony the overall winner of the “International Young Freight Forwarders Award 2007”, Mr. Siva Rama Vankineni from Canada, was announced.

Delegates at the General Meeting unanimously elected Mr. William Gottlieb (Canada) as FIATA’s new President and approved applications from two new Association members from Jordan and Thailand. At the same meeting it was announced that the venue of the FIATA World Congress 2010 will be Bangkok, Thailand.
