Odessa/Ukraine was the host city in June for the 1st REU Field Meeting. The event was organized by the Association of International Freight Forwarders of Ukraine (AIFFU) and the Association of Transport and Freight Forwarding Organisations of Ukraine (Ukrzovnishtrans) on the initiative and under general support of PLASKE JSC, Odessa.
It was held under the patronage of the Ministry of Transport of the Ukraine. Special attention was given to the following issues: Facilitation and support of cooperation with international organisations. Developments of interaction in the transport field including developments of international transport corridors network in the European Union, CIS countries and Asia. Increase of interaction between different modes of transport. The use and the application of the “CIM/SMGS” consignment note to facilitate the international rail cargo transit traffic between CIM and SMGS countries.
The conference was attended by more than 80 delegates from 16 countries and was chaired by the FIATA Senior Vice-President Jean-Claude Delen from Belgium. Also participating were ranking representatives from the City Council of Odessa. It provided a perfect setting for different presentations, such as from Mr Yuriy Prykhodko from AIFFU, Mr Yevgen Novikov from Ukrzovnishtrans, and Mr Myronenko Nikolay from the Association of Customs Brokers of the Ukraine, amongst other presentations given by delegates from various Freight Forwarders Associations in the GUS and CIS countries. Welcome speech has been held by Mrs Olga Sadovska, Head of Department of Economic, Investment Policy and Foreign Trade of the City Council of Odessa. During the conference, a cooperation agreement has been signed between the Freight Forwarder Associations in the Ukraine and Kazakhstan. Topic discussions have attracted a large amount of delegates to interact for issues discussed.
REU Chairman Jean-Claude Delen mentioned that such a conference brings the delegates from CIS and GUS countries closer to FIATA’s goals and activities, and he encouraged the delegates to participate actively in the upcoming FIATA WOLD CONGRESS 2008 in Vancouver.
