Starting at the FIATA Headquarters Session which took place in Zurich, Switzerland from 19th to 22nd of March, 2015, the Members of the FIATA Presidency have decided to adopt the habit of congratulating eminent personalities who have been significantly beneficial for FIATA with the title of "FIATA Fellow". The object of this title is to enable the Presidency to express appreciation for outstanding contributions to the freight forwarding and logistics industry, esteem deserving individuals, and at the same time, use this award as a means to motivate others to contribute their talents and efforts.
The first distinction of this kind will be granted to a personality that has shaped the Young International Freight Forwarders of the Year Award (YIFFYA), Mr Andrew Kemp, Regional Director Europe, Middle East and Africa at Thomas Miller Group / TT Club.
With this award FIATA recognizes Mr Kemp for his longstanding successful dedication: For eight years, he was Chairman of the Steering Group of the Award. Under his tutelage, the award developed into a valuable and extremely successful program on its own.
The award was presented at the Extended Board Dinner on March 21st 2015 by Francesco Parisi, FIATA President, who emphasized Mr Kemp's significance for FIATA and his outstanding personality: "It wasn't just his relevant expertise that made Andrew Kemp such a key player in our institution. It was also a matter of his charisma, both of which he is deftly able to deploy to win people over and motivate young forwarders into a rewarding career in freight forwarding and logistics."
Andrew Kemp stepped down from his role and is succeeded by Michael Yarwood, who has been Claims Executive/ Loss prevention/ Risk Manager at Thomas Miller since 2010 and is now responsible for the YIFFYA Sponsorship Programme.
This year 18 young logistics professionals from 18 different nationalities participate in the YIFFY Award Programme. The YIFFY Award is considered one of the best programs of its kind in the world promoting the interest and growth of the industry. Since its inception in 1999 over 230 dissertations have been written and 46 regional winners have been awarded.
