FIATA and WCO sign new MoU

During the Annual Session of the World Customs Organization’s Council on 25 June 2010 in Brussels, FIATA President Jean-Claude Delen and WCO Secretary General Kunio Mikuriya signed a renewed Memorandum of Understanding.

WCO has designated Customs-Trade Partnership as its key theme for 2010. As there have been significant developments on Customs matters since the signing of the last MoU it has been recognized that is may be time to consider reviewing the MoU between WCO and FIATA to establishing a strong, up-to-date basis for future co-operation which reflects the contemporary global situation and its challenges.

The new MoU will strengthen WCO / FIATA co-operation and endeavour to adopt mutual guidelines towards the implementation of technical developments and widespread use of the agreed upon standards and procedures.

FIATA is attending through its Brussels based representative all WCO meetings of interest for the forwarding and logistics industry to ensure that exchange of information provisions are reinforced to the greatest possible extent.
