As the only multimodal international organization, FIATA advocates trade facilitation policies and collaborates with all industry stakeholders to further develop approaches for the well functioning of the supply chain.
The Working Group Sea Transport is a critical part of the Multimodal Transport Institute (MTI), and is comprised of an active group of advisers based around the world with expertise in maritime transportation matters. The Working Group provides crucial input to shape international policy discussions on maritime issues, develop resources and guidance for the industry, and strengthen engagement with other actors in the supply chain. In particular, this includes working to advocate for a level-playing field for all actors in the supply chain.
Recent work has included providing comments to the US Federal Maritime Commission (FMC) in response to its investigation on carriers’ practices regarding Merchant Clauses in bills of lading, developing a toolkit on demurrage and detention practices, and conducting a review of container surcharges around the world.
